Finally, Nokia Coming back in Mobile Industry with HMD Global
Nokia, is not just a brand in smartphone industry. Its the heart of smartphone industry. Nokia was once a synonyms of mobile. Whenever people in India went outside to shop for a mobile, they never asked the shopkeeper to show them Mobile, instead they used to ask for Nokia. Nokia was the brand which was present in almost everyones pocket be it a middleman or a rich person. It was a status symbol holding Nokia mobiles. But things changed when Android came in the market and Nokias stiff decision not to adopt Android resulted into a disastrous sold of the company and the brand Nokia few years ago. A market leader in mobile industry was thrown out from its own market. A company that created a mobile revolution was no where in the market.
But things are changing now. According to Nokia press release held on 18 May, 2016 , Nokia has signed a strategic brand and intellectual property licensing agreement with HMD* global from Finland. As per the signed deal, HMD global will be able to make and sell smartphone and tablets which has Nokia branding on it. This simply means that the once forgotten brand in mobile industry will be seen soon. The Nokia brand will return in mobile and tablet market globally. In return, HMD global will pay royalty against using the brand name and intellectual property rights.
(*HMD global is a new company based in Finland)
Way back on Jan, 2016, Tekz24 informed our viewers about Nokia is searching partner for its Upcoming Phone with Its ( world-class partner ) in 2016 and finally time has came when Nokia announced that HMD will be given rights to use its Nokia brand for selling the new mobiles.
To recall, Microsoft bought Nokia when Nokia failed to stand in the mobile industry. But Microsoft too failed to bring back Nokia from red loss making figures. The Microsoft deal with Nokia is expected to end in 2nd half of 2016 after which Nokia can re-enter in mobile industry with its name. But instead of manufacturing feature phones, smartphones and tablets by its own, Nokia has given rights to HMD to use its Nokia branding in its mobile. As per HMD global, it is expected to invest a total of over USD 500 million over the next 3 years. The invested amount will go towards rebuilding the Nokia brand by way of marketing.
Nokia will not invest in HMD, instead it will just give its branding rights and some patent licenses for cellular standards against the royalty. HMD will get helps from Nokia Technologies. Nokia Technologies will be present in HMDs Board of Directors for helping it setting brand requirements and meeting customer expectations for Nokia devices. It will help in maintaining the Nokia quality, R&D and its design.

Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies, said:
Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Nokia brand in an industry where Nokia remains a truly iconic name. Instead of Nokia returning to manufacturing mobile phones itself, HMD plans to produce mobile phones and tablets that can leverage and grow the value of the Nokia brand in global markets. Working with HMD and FIH will let us participate in one of the largest consumer electronics markets in the world while staying true to our licensing business model.
