According to DigiTimes sources, Taiwan-based Largan Technology as well as Japan- and China-based camera lens makers have sent dual-lens camera test samples to Apple for potential inclusion in its next-generation iPhone.

The report also claims that since Taiwan-based Largan Technologies currently supplies Apple with over 60 percent of its camera lens supply needs, the company is looking for other dual-lens camera suppliers to diversify its supply-chain.

This is not the first time that we are hearing Apple considering going for a dual-lens camera setup on the iPhone. Reports indicate that the company plans on going in for a dual-lens camera setup on the iPhone 7 Plus, with its smaller sibling coming with only a single lens solution, likely due to space constraints.

Many Android OEMs have previously used dual-lens camera setup on their smartphones, though they met with limited success. For example, HTC used a dual-lens camera setup on the One M8 and One M9, with the secondary depth sensor making it possible to change the focus from one subject to another after shooting the photo.

It will be interesting to see how Apple uses the dual-lens camera setup on the iPhone 7 Plus to further improve the imaging performance on the handset.
